Kevin Smith UCF Running Back

Kevin Smith ran for 284 yards and four touchdowns today, moving himself into second place behind Barry Sanders on the NCAA’s single-season rushing list. This and University of Central Florida beat Tulsa 44-25 for the Conference USA championship.

This UCF junior had 24 carries for 161 yards by halftime, and made that added to that total with a 74 yard Touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

The UCF Knights coach George O’Leary even saved a touchdown in the second quarter after Paul Smith ran it in on an eight yard draw. The Golden Hurricanes were lined up for the extra point but coach O’Leary challenged the touchdown run, contesting that Tulsa had 12 players on the field. The review later showed he was right. Tulsa ended up coming away without any points when Smith was intercepted by Johnell Neal at the 5 yard line.

UCF is now set to play in the Liberty Bowl.
